The Family Fun Day

Happy New Year to all, we are so looking forward to catching up with everyone at the first of our Tir na nOg events for 2012. Sunday 26th February , The Family Fun
Day starting at 1pm at the domain next to the Irish Society in Domain Terrace. This promises to be fun day for all... We have a busy afternoon planned offering the children the opportunity to participate in sack races, 3 legged races, spud and spoon races and of course the traditional running races as well as throwing the gumboot. There will be a complimentary ice blocks for the kids. We hope you can make it.

Celebrating St. Patricks Day

Following our family fun day in February we have another Tir na nOg session planned for Sat 17th March 10am-12.30pm at the Irish Society the theme of the session is about celebrating St Patricks Day and giving the children a bit of a greater understanding about what St Patricks Day is all about. Then again in May (date to be confirmed) we will meet for our 3rd Tir na nOg session for the year. The theme yet to be decided on so we will advise more detail in coming weeks .

Preschool Music Group

This group has been a great way for Mums or Dads with preschoolers to get together and have a chat and a coffee whilst the little ones have a play. Sorcha O’Malley and Elaine O’Leary have again kindly volunteered their time and have put together a 25 minute session of preschool music & movement. This year they will be adding in some Irish nursery rhymes and Gaelic children’s music that they will interactively share with the little ones. Afterwards a cuppa will be offered and we ask if each person could bring a small plate to share. The first session will be held on Wednesday the 7th March at 10am at the Christchurch Irish Society. All welcome - preschoolers 0 -5 yrs with accompanying parent / caregiver and bring a friend if you wish as the more the merrier.... These sessions are going to run fortnightly this term so please note the following dates in your diary:

 - Wednesday 7th of March
 - Wednesday 21st of March
 - Wednesday 4th of April
 - Wednesday 18th of April

Youth Group (10 - 14 Years Old)

We have become very aware that a number of our regular Tir na nOg participants are growing up and see the need to deliver a group that they can develop and maintain friendships within the Irish network in Christchurch. So we have decided to run a 6 weekly youth group for 10yr olds – 14 yr olds on a six weekly basis. The youth group session will be filled with fun youth orientated activities on site at the Irish club and sometimes offsite. We encourage individuals to bring along a couple of mates to enjoy the evening alongside them. The first session will be Friday 30th March 5.30pm -7.30pm and will include a complimentary dinner. Mark this space in your calendar and feel free to pass this invitation on to other Irish families you may know with youths.

Performance/Play

This year Elaine O’Leary has kindly volunteered her time to put on an Irish play with children from the society aged from 5yrs – 16yrs. At this stage the play or story that
will be dramatised has not been decided but the objective is that it will be performed to audiences in July with rehearsals kicking off April this year. At this stage Elaine
has requested children and youths who would like to audition for roles in the play are invited to the Irish Society on Friday 24th March 6pm-7.30pm and Sat 25th March
3.30pm-5pm. Elaine will be looking for actors, singers, musicians, people to assist back stage, costume makers, prop makers etc. So if you can assist please contact Elaine and turn up to auditions on the dates mentioned above. We will keep you posted on developments.

Quiz Fundraisers

Please mark in your diaries that we will be running two quiz fundraisers this year firstly on the Friday 25th May and the second one on Friday 27th July. So please give
us your support by marking these dates on your calendar and getting a group of 6-8 people together ... further information will follow. We look forward to seeing new and existing Tir na nOg families at the coming events.
