by Jeanette Fitzsimons The Christchurch Ladies gaelic
football team had a great trip to Wellington to mark the end of their
season. Unfortunately the Wellington and Hutt Valley teams were a
little too strong for us on the day (both teams had former
intercounty footballers!!). The Christchurch team improved as the day
progressed and injuries aside it was a very worthwhile trip to
Wellington. Well done to the Christchurch team – Lisa, Fiona, Susan,
Una, Niamh, Bronagh, Tatum, Carlene, Caroline and Jeanette. Wishing a
quick recovery from injury to Fiona, Tatum, Carlene and Lisa. Bon
voyage to Niamh and Bronagh - we will miss you girls, hope you keep
playing football wherever you end up. After an
exciting final, the Hutt Valley team won the inaugural McKenna Cup
(provided by Wellington GAA in honour of Owen McKenna). Wellington GAA
and Irish Society hosted a fundraiser for the McKenna family on
Saturday night, which had a great crowd and was good craic. The
team looked great on the day in their new jerseys modelled in the photo
below. A special thanks to Tom and Mary Murphy of Total Shaving
Solutions www.totalshave.com who are the main sponsors of the jerseys
and who travelled across the globe from Castlebar, Co. Mayo for the
first outing of the jerseys. Any girls wishing to continue training over the winter can join in with the lads training. | | Back row: Tatum, Carlene, Lisa, Caroline, Niamh Fron trow: Susan, Jeanette, Bronagh, Úna, Fiona | McKenna Cup |
