Match Report

Counties Game, 8th May 2011

After a deluge of Irish weather on Saturday 7th May, Sunday was a much better day for a game of football at South Hagley Park. The combined forces of Munster & Leinster (ML) took on Connaught & Ulster (CU). Fiona Walsh did a super job refereeing with help from scorekeeper Tom O’Gorman and umpire Eddie Coffey. She was tough with on-pitch protesters who got their games mixed up and thought full rugby tackles were a fair substitute for a shoulder. If there was a competition for hitting the crossbar and posts the CU team would have won hands down but on the day the ML team prevailed winning 8-13 to 6-13 and taking the Muzza Cup. Some highlights on the day were – Lisa outclassing a certain Tyrone footballer to make a great steal, Ciaran’s runs down the middle of the pitch resulting in some great goals, great saves by James and Rory, and Aileen showing the boys how it’s done in the forwards. A rematch for the Muzza Cup again will be in a few weeks. Get well soon to Mark who cracked his ribs during the game.
